Towards the end of the 19th century, the Avenue de la Grande-Armée was the world epicentre of innovation in the bicycle and automobile industries. In 1900, the Grande-Armée was the natural extension of the Great Universal Exhibition in Paris for everything to do with
the automobile industry, a major invention of the 20th century.
At numbers 46-48, stood the headquarters and shop of the famous firm Mestre et Blatgé, makers of velocipede and automobile parts. A great era! Then, during the 20th century, the Grande-Armée gradually recedes behind the Champs-Elysées...
Today, 120 years later, with the revival of Porte Maillot and the renovation of large commercial buildings, the avenue is in the process of regaining its status.
Numbers 46-48 now stand as the symbol
and spearhead of this renaissance: Great!"GRANDE ARMÉE
GREAT AGAIN"
